Adjustments, modes and filters

These commands change the pixels of the active layer — inside the selection when there is one. A dialog applies its result when you press OK, as one step you can undo with Ctrl+Z; Cancel leaves the image exactly as it was. To adjust without touching pixels, use an adjustment layer (see Layers).

Image menu

• Invert (Ctrl+I), Auto White Balance (Alt+Shift+B), Equalize, Threshold…, Posterize….
• Adjust ▸ Levels… (Ctrl+L), Curves… (Ctrl+M), Brightness/Contrast… (Ctrl+B), Color Balance… (Ctrl+Y), Hue/Saturation… (Ctrl+U), Selective Color… (Alt+Shift+C), HSL Curves… (Ctrl+Shift+M), Color Wheels… (Ctrl+Shift+Y).
• Calculate ▸ Add, Blend, Composite, Constant, Darker, Difference, Duplicate, Lighter, Multiply, Screen and Subtract — channel arithmetic between open documents — and Apply Image….
• Flip ▸ Horizontal, Vertical; Rotate ▸ 180°, 90° CW (Ctrl+R), 90° CCW (Ctrl+Shift+R), Arbitrary…; Effects ▸ Stretch/Shrink, Skew, Perspective, Distort.
• Image Size… (Ctrl+Alt+I) resamples the whole document; Canvas Size… (Ctrl+Alt+C) adds or trims canvas around it.

Mode menu

The colour mode of the document: Bitmap…, Grayscale, Indexed Color…, RGB Color, CMYK Color, Lab Color, Multichannel, and 8 Bits/Channel or 16 Bits/Channel. Color Table ▸ edits the palette of an Indexed Color document. New Channel, Delete Channel, Split Channels and Merge Channels… manage the channels shown in the Channels palette (Ctrl+Alt+4).

Filter menu

• Last Filter (Ctrl+F) applies the previous filter again with the same settings.
• Blur ▸ Blur, Blur More, Gaussian Blur…, Motion Blur….
• Sharpen ▸ Sharpen, Sharpen More, Sharpen Edges, Unsharp Mask….
• Noise ▸ Add Noise…, Despeckle, Median….
• Stylize ▸ Diffuse…, Facet, Find Edges, Mosaic…, Trace Contour….
• Other ▸ High Pass…, Maximum…, Minimum…, Offset….
• Filter Gallery, Liquify, Pin Warp and the AI filters (Remove Background, Depth Map and the Creator Suite rows) have windows of their own with a live preview.
