What Montage Pro for Windows sends, when, and to whom. The short version: the application edits your videos on your own computer. It needs no account and has no subscription. It connects to the network only for the features listed below, each of them started by you, and there is no advertising, no analytics library and no usage tracking — in the app or on this site. Your projects and your media never leave your computer, except a picture you choose to animate with AI and the files you attach to a feedback message yourself.
Effective 28 October 2026 · applies to Montage Pro for Windows, version 27.0 and later, downloaded from this site or installed from the Microsoft Store.
Every network connection the application can make, and what triggers it. Nothing else leaves your computer.
| Feature | When | What is sent | To whom |
|---|---|---|---|
| Generate (AI Prompt Clip, picture to video) | Only when you generate a clip | Your prompt, the picture you chose to animate and the clip’s settings, with your own API key | Google’s Gemini API, directly from your computer. Nothing passes through us |
| Music & Sounds | Only when you search, preview or download | The words you search for, and requests for the tracks you play or download; your own Freesound key or Jamendo client ID where those services need one | Freesound, Jamendo, Openverse and ccMixter, directly |
| Speech model | Once, the first time you use Transcribe Audio | A plain request for the model file. No personal data, no identifier, nothing of your audio | Hugging Face (huggingface.co), where the whisper.cpp project publishes its models |
| Send Feedback, Report This Clip… | Only when you press Send | Your text, the files you attach (for Report This Clip…, the clip’s prompt, its starting picture and the frame at the playhead), and a technical context: app version, Windows version, computer name, language, screen, graphics adapter, the open project’s file name and location, and the last lines of the application’s log. Not the project file, not your media | Our support server, appsupport-gajv.onrender.com (hosted on Render) |
| Crash reports | At the launch after a crash | The crash text: the exception, the call stack, the application’s last log lines, the app and Windows versions and the computer name. No project file, no media, no memory dump | The same support server |
| Check for Updates | Help › Check for Updates…, and an automatic check at launch from the second launch on (copies from this site only) | A plain request for the update feed. No personal data, no identifier | This website |
| Tutorials, links | When you click one | Your browser opens the page | This website, or the site of the link |
| MCP | — | Nothing: local only | — |
Transcribe Audio, the person cut-out effects, stabilization, beat analysis, effects, rendering and export all run on your computer.
An AI Prompt Clip turns a prompt into a video clip; Generate turns a still into a moving shot. They work only with your own Google Gemini API key, which you enter in Edit › Preferences… › AI. We provide no key and run no proxy.
If a generated clip is inappropriate, tell us through Send Feedback; we can also forward a report to Google.
Music & Sounds searches four open libraries of music and sound effects through their public interfaces, directly from your computer: Freesound, Jamendo, Openverse and ccMixter. When you search, your search words go to them; when you preview or download a track, the track is fetched from them. Each service handles those requests under its own privacy policy. Freesound needs your own API key and Jamendo your own client ID, entered in Preferences › Music and kept in the application’s settings file on your computer. Each track shows its licence; what you may do with it is set by that licence.
The effects that cut out the person in the shot (Frame Escape, Magazine Cover, Dolly Zoom, Paper Cutout, Growth Curve), Select Object and Transcribe Audio run entirely on your computer. The two cut-out models come with the application. The speech model of Transcribe Audio is large, so it is not in the installer: the first time you transcribe, the application downloads it from Hugging Face (huggingface.co, where the whisper.cpp project publishes it), checks it against the fingerprint built into the app and keeps it on your computer, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\MontagePro\Models. The request carries no identifier and nothing of your video; your footage and its sound are never uploaded. Hugging Face handles that request under its own privacy policy.
The feedback chat (the round purple button, or Help › Send Feedback…) lets you write to us. On a clip generated with AI, Report This Clip… in the clip’s menu opens the same chat with the clip’s prompt in the text and its starting picture and the frame at the playhead attached; you can edit or remove them before sending. Nothing is sent until you press Send. When you do, the application posts your message to our support server at https://appsupport-gajv.onrender.com, a service we run on Render (Render Services, Inc., USA). The message contains:
If you are offline the message is queued in %LOCALAPPDATA%\MontagePro\ and sent later, when there is a connection; you can delete the queue at any time. There is no account and no e-mail address unless you type one in the text.
If the application crashes, it writes a report and a memory dump on your computer, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\MontagePro\. At the next launch the text of the report — the exception, the call stack with module names, the application’s last log lines, the application and Windows versions and the computer’s host name — is sent to the same support server, so that we can fix what broke. The memory dump is not sent, and neither is anything of your projects. The local files stay where they are and you can delete them.
In copies downloaded from this site, Help › Check for Updates… fetches https://rainbowfactory.uk/montage-pro/updates/appcast-windows.xml (or appcast-windows-classic.xml for the Classic edition) with a plain request and compares the version in it with yours. The request carries no identifier, no project name and no machine name. From the second launch on, the application makes the same request by itself when it starts (at most once every ten minutes), and nothing more; to turn the automatic check off, set "mw_update_auto_check": 0 in %LOCALAPPDATA%\MontagePro\settings.json.
If you choose to install an update, the application downloads the package from this site, checks its length, verifies its signature against the key built into your copy, and refuses anything that does not verify. In the Microsoft Store copy there is no update check at all: updates come from the Store, under Microsoft’s privacy statement.
The tutorials of the welcome window and the links in the application open pages of this website, or of the site the link names, in your default browser. The application itself sends nothing; the browser requests the page as it would any other.
Montage Pro can be driven by an AI assistant you set up yourself through the Model Context Protocol. The application listens on a local named pipe that only your Windows user can open, and writes a small discovery file in %LOCALAPPDATA%\MontagePro\mcp\; montagepro.exe --mcp-stdio is the bridge the assistant starts. It opens no network port. It can be switched off in Edit › Preferences… › MCP. What the assistant reads from your project and sends to its own provider is governed by the assistant’s policy, not by this one.
Uninstalling the application does not delete these; you can remove the folders yourself.
This site is static pages. It sets no cookies of its own, runs no analytics and embeds no advertising. Fonts are served from this site. Links to Discord and the Microsoft Store lead to those services and their policies. Our hosting provider keeps ordinary server logs (IP address, requested page, time) for the operation of the site, including downloads of the application and requests for the update feed.

Why we process it. Feedback and crash reports are processed to fix bugs and improve the application (our legitimate interest, and your request when you press Send). Update checks and the speech model download deliver the files you asked for. Nothing is used for advertising or profiling, and nothing is sold. AI generation and Music & Sounds go from your computer to those services and are not processed by us.
How long we keep it. Feedback and crash reports are kept on our support server for as long as the issue they describe is open, and at most 12 months. The update feed is a public file and records nothing.
Where. Our support server runs on Render (Render Services, Inc.) in the United States.
No usage tracking. The Windows application collects no usage statistics of any kind: it does not count launches or the features you use, and contains no analytics library. If that ever changes, it will be said here before it ships.
Your rights. Under the UK GDPR and, where it applies, the EU GDPR you can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to the processing, or complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. Because reports carry no account and no e-mail address, a request should mention the host name and approximate date of the report so that we can find it.
Children. The application is not directed at children and collects no personal data from anyone as part of normal use.
Changes. When the application gains or loses a network feature, this page changes with it, and the date at the top is updated.
